The range of electrified vehicles in the Canary Islands gains a new option with the arrival of Deepal, the brand owned by the Chinese automotive giant Changan. Its launch in the archipelago is being handled by Grupo Canaauto, through Pelican Motor, with a range that aims to combine technology, design and various electrification solutions to meet the needs of Canarian drivers.

The brand is launching this new phase with two fully electric SUVs, the S05 and the S07, alongside a plug-in hybrid version of the S05. With this range, Deepal aims to cater to different user profiles and offer both a compact option for everyday journeys and a larger, higher-performance vehicle.

Diana Brito, a sales adviser at Changan, explains that the brand’s launch on the islands is initially centred on these two electric models. The S05 represents the most compact and versatile option in the range, whilst the S07 is positioned as a larger, more premium alternative.

One of the key elements on which the brand builds its offering is technology. The design was developed in Italy, whilst the technological ecosystem was created in collaboration with companies such as Huawei and CATL. Among the standout features is the augmented reality Head-Up Display, a system that projects information relevant to the driver into their field of vision and is integral to the brand’s technological philosophy.

In the case of the S05, the model is aimed at those seeking a compact SUV for everyday use, both for urban journeys and family use. As Brito explains, the model aims to offer a balanced relationship between features and price, making it one of the entry-level models in the Deepal range.

Above it sits the S07, the largest electric SUV in the range, a model measuring almost 4.75 metres in length and offering a range of up to 500 kilometres according to the WLTP cycle in its electric version. Its interior continues the focus on technology with large screens, advanced driver-assistance systems and the augmented reality Head-Up Display.

One of the key elements on which the brand builds its offering is technology.

Charging capability is another standout feature, as the S07 supports DC fast charging of up to 200 kW, allowing the battery to be recharged from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in approximately 15 minutes, according to data provided by the brand.

For those who still find it difficult to make the leap to a fully electric vehicle, Deepal also offers a plug-in hybrid alternative. The S05 PHEV offers up to 100 kilometres of electric range, allowing a large proportion of daily journeys to be made using this system alone. When combined with the combustion engine, the total range exceeds 1,000 kilometres.

The brand’s launch in the Canary Islands will be supported by Grupo Canaauto through Pelican Motor, which will be responsible for introducing and supporting Deepal in the archipelago. To this end, it will initially have three strategic locations: one in Gran Canaria and two in Tenerife.

With this launch, Deepal is expanding the range of electrified mobility options available in the Canary Islands. Two 100 per cent electric models and a plug-in hybrid option make up the initial range, through which the company aims to offer different paths towards electrification – from those who have already committed to electric driving to those who prefer to make the transition gradually.
