Rayco Vargas, the founder of Varguita Cheesecake, recently clinched the top spot at the inaugural Best Cheesecake of the Canary Islands Competition. This event was hosted by the Pinolere Cultural Association as a highlight of the 13th Canary Islands Cheese Fair 2024, which took place on April 7th in La Orotava.


Varguita Cheesecake first made its mark a few months earlier at the 8th Canary Islands Gastronomy Fair 2023, where they participated in a workshop titled “La Sobremesa: Coffee and Cheese in Texture” that focused on showcasing local products.

Since that event, their cakes have rapidly grown in popularity, becoming a favourite across various culinary venues in Tenerife. This burgeoning popularity culminated last weekend when their cheesecakes were highly praised by the jury at the competition in Pinolere, earning them widespread acclaim.

The Varguita team prides itself on sourcing ingredients exclusively from local suppliers, a choice that underscores their commitment to highlighting the distinctive flavors of Canarian cheeses. Their meticulous selection process, combined with positive word-of-mouth from those who have savored their desserts and the visually appealing presentation of their products in photographs, has significantly propelled the brand’s success, now boasting over 7,000 followers on social media.

Varguita Cheesecake offers an array of flavors, ranging from traditional cheesecake to innovative variations like smoked cheese, blue cheese, cheese and lotus, and cheese and pistachios.

Operating out of their bakery in San Isidro (Granadilla de Abona), the Varguita team crafts approximately 350 handmade cakes each week to meet the soaring demand for their exceptional desserts.
