Santa Cruz de Tenerife unveils a new dog park

The newly inaugurated park in Santa Cruz spans approximately 450 square metres in surface area.

In the morning, the Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, along with Carlos Tarife, the Councillor for Public Services, and Javier Rivero, the Councillor for the Southwest district, paid a visit to the newly inaugurated dog park situated within the Hermógenes Afonso park, known as “Hupalupa,” in the densely populated neighborhood of Añaza in the capital of Tenerife.

The park now boasts a secure enclosure, a double entrance gate to ensure the safety of pets, seating areas for pet owners, and informative signs at the entrance outlining the rules for using the space, as detailed by the city’s councillor.

Carlos Tarife, the Councillor for Public Services, revealed that the Public Spaces maintenance section spearheaded this initiative. He pointed out that this pet-friendly space in Añaza covers an area of approximately 450 square metres, enclosed by a perimeter fence stretching 89 linear metres. The park’s construction required the use of 75 cubic metres of gravel, along with an additional 60 cubic metres of soil. The entire project had a total cost of €28,831, which was included in the public road maintenance contract improvements.

Javier Rivero, the Councillor for the Southwest district, emphasized that this newly established facility addresses a need within the community, as the park is frequently frequented by local residents and their dogs.

He urged residents to make use of the park and emphasized the importance of continuing to adhere to responsible pet ownership practices, including cleaning up after their animals, which remains the responsibility of pet owners, even within the confines of this well-enclosed space.
