Temperatures to fall across Spain this Tuesday, except in the Canary Islands

The high temperatures continue to linger on the Canary Islands.

This Tuesday, temperatures across Spain are expected to drop, with the exception of the Canary Islands where they will rise, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Along with the cooler temperatures, weak frosts are anticipated in expansive inland areas of the northern half of the peninsula.

Weather warnings have been issued for several regions: wind warnings for Teruel and Zaragoza in Aragon, and Tarragona in Catalonia; coastal phenomena warnings for Menorca in the Balearic Islands and for Girona and Tarragona in Catalonia; and a snow warning for Lleida in Catalonia.

These frosts will particularly affect flat regions in the north and east of the northern plateau, as well as the northeast of the southern plateau, with more severe frosts expected in the Pyrenees. Snow levels are predicted to range from 900 to 1,100 metres in the Pyrenees, 1,000 to 1,300 metres in the Iberian Mountains, 1,700 to 2,000 metres in the southeast, and 1,200 to 1,700 metres elsewhere.

The north of the peninsula will experience a humid northerly flow, bringing cloudy or overcast conditions and precipitation particularly to the eastern Cantabrian region and the Pyrenees. Light precipitation may also occur in the upper Ebro and the northern Iberian region, with possible showers in the western Cantabrian and northern Galicia.

In Mediterranean areas, the atmosphere will be unstable with cloudy intervals and a chance of showers and some thunderstorms, particularly likely in eastern Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the southeastern mountainous regions of the peninsula. Other parts of the peninsula are expected to see partly cloudy to clear skies.

The Canary Islands are forecasted to have cloudy intervals in the northern parts and partly cloudy skies in the south, with a slight chance of light rainfall in the north of the larger islands.

Winds will be moderate from the east in the Strait of Gibraltar and the southeast coast of the peninsula, while northerly winds will prevail in most other parts of the country, including strong gusts and very strong intervals in Ampurdán and the lower Ebro.
