A marked shift in weather conditions is now being felt across the Canary Islands, as unsettled skies, lower temperatures and increasing humidity replace the stable, sunny pattern of recent days. According to the latest forecast from the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), this Monday will be characterised by rain, cooler air and a more autumnal feel, particularly on the higher and more mountainous islands.
From the early hours of the day, the arrival of north-westerly winds and the development of dense cloud cover have significantly altered the atmospheric conditions across the archipelago. The change is especially noticeable in the northern and eastern slopes of the main islands, as well as across the western province, where instability will dominate throughout much of the day.
El Hierro, Tenerife and Gran Canaria: the most affected islands

Among all the islands, three stand out as the most impacted by this sudden change: El Hierro, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. These areas will experience the most pronounced combination of lower temperatures, cloud build-up and rainfall.
El Hierro: the coldest point in the archipelago
El Hierro is expected to record the lowest temperatures in the entire autonomous community. Minimum values will drop to around 12°C, making it the coldest location in the Canary Islands today.
In combination with elevated humidity levels and persistent cloud cover, this will create a noticeably cooler sensation, particularly in inland and elevated areas. The typical mildness of the islands will give way here to a distinctly chillier atmosphere.
Tenerife: cloud, rain and cooler coastal temperatures
On Tenerife, the effects of the weather change will also be significant. Maximum temperatures along the coast are not expected to exceed 22°C, marking a clear drop compared to previous days.
Rainfall is forecast to become increasingly likely, especially on the northern and eastern slopes of the island. According to AEMET, the probability of precipitation will rise notably during the afternoon, when cloud cover thickens and conditions become more unstable.
In these areas, periods of light but persistent rain could affect daily activity, particularly at higher elevations and in exposed zones.
Gran Canaria: a calm start followed by afternoon showers

Gran Canaria will see a more gradual transition. The day will begin with intervals of cloud and relatively stable conditions, but this will change as the hours progress.
By the afternoon, light and occasional rainfall is expected, mainly affecting inland and mid-altitude areas. Temperatures in these zones will also decline slightly, reinforcing the sense of a cooler, more unsettled day.
Minimum temperatures will hover around 17°C, and while coastal southern areas may remain relatively milder, much of the island will experience conditions that call for warmer clothing and rain protection.
Eastern islands: wind and lingering haze
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, rainfall will be less of a concern. Instead, the dominant features will be high-altitude haze and increasing wind.
Although the haze is expected to gradually diminish as the day progresses, winds from the north-west will strengthen, reaching moderate levels with occasional strong gusts. These gusts will be particularly noticeable along exposed western coastlines and in the far north-east of the islands.

The wind will contribute to a lower perceived temperature, especially in open and coastal areas, adding to the overall sensation of a cooler day.
A day of contrasts across the archipelago
While the Canary Islands are often associated with stable and mild weather, this episode highlights the variability that can occur, particularly during transitional periods. The combination of cloud, rain, wind and cooler temperatures will create a noticeably different atmosphere across much of the archipelago.
For many residents and visitors, especially on El Hierro, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, today will be a day to swap lighter clothing for jackets and to keep an umbrella close at hand.
