The heat returns: thermometers set to soar today in the Canary Islands

In southern-facing inland areas of the Canary Islands, temperatures could climb to between 30-32 ºC.

Today’s weather forecast for the Canary Islands, provided by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), predicts skies covered with high clouds and intervals of medium clouds.


Temperatures are set to rise slightly to moderately, with significant increases expected at the high peaks of La Palma. Inland areas facing south might see temperatures reaching between 30-32ºC.

Moderate east to northeast winds will prevail along the coasts, with strong gusts occurring in areas typically affected by accelerated trade winds. The summits will experience light, variable winds.

In Gran Canaria, expect high clouds with some low clouds in the north during the early morning and late evening. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see overcast conditions with high clouds throughout the day.

Minimum temperatures across the islands will remain unchanged or increase slightly, while maximum temperatures will see a slight to moderate rise, particularly in the northern half of the islands. Temperatures could climb to 30-32ºC on the peaks and midlands of the southern and western slopes, with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria experiencing highs of 26ºC and lows of 18ºC.

Winds will be moderate from the northeast, intensifying on the southeast and northwest slopes during the early morning and late afternoon. At higher altitudes, winds will be light and predominantly easterly.
